“We had quite a big cupboard in the kitchen, and I used to spend hours in there hunched over a little desk producing reams and reams of drawings of what I referred to as fancy ladies… which were either very glamorous looking women in fancy dresses or quite thinly veiled depictions of women who could have been like my mum doing things in the home. So both my subject and that force for drawing was there from the start.”
