In Kill all Rock Stars (Kurt Cobain), Violette combines a string of cryptic items to mask the theme of the work–rock and roll suicide. With admirable restraint, Violette keeps his references subsumed under visual ambiguity, preventing the viewer from understanding the work too quickly.Yet, the artist’s visual language is linked to his fascination with pop culture’s fetishization of celebrity death and the troubling psychology that highlights the frustration and moral decrepitude that plagues marginalized sects of American youth culture.
