Leon Bibelwas inspired by the industrial riverfront landscapes near his home by the Harlem River in the Bronx and their active power plants, coal loading docks, boats and bridges, all encouraging signs of progress during the Depression. In the far distance in New York City Bridge Scene is High Bridge in the Bronx, the oldest bridge in New York City, which like many of the industrial elements pictured is still recognizable on the waterfront today.
