James Galanos is a world renowned California-based fashion designer celebrated for his elegant lines reminiscent of French haute couture, and is best known for the embroidered lace gown worn by Nancy Reagan to her husband's inaugural ball in 1981. After retiring from fashion in 1998, Galanos turned his attention to abstract photography. With simple subjects such as fabric or ribbon, Galanos creates images based on the same tenents of form and color used throughout his career as a designer.
