  • Fancy colour diamonds come in an array of colours. Each diamond possessing a unique composition of chemical elements that have the power to dictate rarity, value and desirability. In diamonds, rarity and desirability often relates to value. Therefore, diamonds with a noticeable hint of any colour on the coloured diamond spectrum are deemed considerably rarer.

Lot 580 is referred to, in the diamond trade, as a Chartreuse diamond. The name Chartreuse diamond can be applied to greenish-yellow, green-yellow, or occasionally yellow-green hues that exhibit light or strong tones. Referencing a similarity to the liquor originally distilled from a secret formula by the monks of La Grande Chartreuse, France, the presence of a strong “chartreuse fluorescence of green, further enhances the hue and saturation of the diamond.

In the case of yellow diamonds, the presence of nitrogen is incorporated into their carbon crystal structure. The nitrogen impurities give a diamond its yellow colour as they modify light and absorb the blue part of the visible spectrum.

All fancy colour diamonds follow the same colour grading scale: Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense, and Fancy Vivid. As the colour concentration increases within the stone, so does its value. Lot 580 possesses a strong saturation, afforded the second highest colour grading of Fancy Intense Greenish Yellow. Coupled with its unique natural Chartreuse colour with strong green fluorescence, creates a unique opportunity to own a rare collectible created by nature.
