When F.P. Journe unveiled his Octa Sport series in 2011, it was hard to believe how lightweight they were.

They were so light, they almost felt fake – that's because the initial F.P. Journe "lineSport" watches featured cases made of aluminum.

All things must evolve, and in 2014, Journe changed the case metal from the original aluminum construction to titanium. The watches otherwise remained the same. The soft qualities of aluminum posed some structural difficulties and Mr. Journe felt a completely titanium watch would still provide the incredible lightness the lineSport lovers were used to, without any of the issues. The case also features rubber inserts and a ceramic 60-minute bezel insert.

That said, although the cases and bracelets of the lineSport series watches are made from titanium, the movements and dials are still crafted from aluminum to maximize lightness.

The watch we have currently available via Phillips PERPETUAL is a yellow-dial version of the F.P. Jurne Octa Sport, featuring the self-winding caliber 1300.3. Since the Octa was first introduced in 2001, the caliber 1300 has been outfitted with all sorts of complications, including power reserves, chronographs, annual calendars, perpetual calendars, moonphases, dual-time displays, and even a zodiac indication. Journe was able to accomplish all these additions due to the Octa’s unusual movement architecture, which includes an extra millimeter of space between the movement and dial – all the room Journe required to go wild with additional complications.

Th caliber 1330.3 consists of 286 parts and has a power reserve of around 160 hours. Likewise, it is highly decorated with Côtes de Genève on the bridges, circular graining on the baseplate, chamfered and circular graining on the wheels, and more. The winding rotor is a mixture of titanium and tungsten.

While most F.P. Journe watches have movements made out of rose gold, the Octa Sport movements is made from an aluminum alloy. Coupled with their titanium cases and bracelets, this makes the watches very light. Both watches only weigh about 75 grams.

The Octa Sport example available from Phillips PERPETUAL features a power reserve display, emphasizing its impressive 120-hour running autonomy, with a small seconds display at six o'clock, an AM/PM indicator at nine o'clock, and a big date window.
