The Photographs department at Phillips is a leader in the Photographs market with sales in New York and London distinguished by their balance of classic and contemporary works. In recent seasons, the Photographs Department has achieved strong results across all genres of the medium, including works by 20th-century masters such as Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Robert Frank, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Mapplethorpe and Horst P. Horst, as well as works by contemporary stars such as Peter Beard, Thomas Demand, Cindy Sherman, Andreas Gursky, Desiree Dolron, Thomas Struth and Edward Burtynsky. This range of material is further complemented by the recent sales of private collections including The Arc of Photography: A Private East Coast Collection; The Face of Modernism: A Private West Coast Collection; and Selections from The Thomas Walther Collection.
