A Merce Cunningham performance featuring the art of Gerhard Richter
Recognized as one the world's finest dance companies, Rambert has an illustrious history of collaborating with visual artists - from celebrated works with Howard Hodgkin, Bridget Riley and Richard Deacon to recent projects with Mat Collishaw and Pablo Bronstein. In 2014, the company commissioned the 'Rambert Event' to inaugurate their new home on London's South Bank and to celebrate their longstanding association with legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham.
Phillips is committed to supporting contemporary arts and culture through our worldwide programme of Arts Partnerships. As part of this, Phillips proudly plays host to the 'Rambert Event', featuring choreography by Cunningham and original music composed and performed by Radiohead drummer Philip Selway, Adem Ilhan and Quinta. The set and costumes are designed by artist Gerhard Richter. Ten stunning, floor-to-ceiling prints based on Richter's Cage (1) - (6) paintings from 2006, currently on view at Tate Modern, serve as the backdrop for this unique dance work described as a "thrilling 5-star encounter" by The Guardian.
Limited tickets are available for performances on Saturday, 19 November. Click here to secure your attendance.
The 'Rambert Event' is staged by former Merce Cunningham Company dancer Jeannie Steele. These performances are presented with the permission and cooperation of the Merce Cunningham Trust. The original production was made possible by Rambert's New Work Commissioning Fund and with the support of Cockayne - Grants for the Arts, a donor-advised fund of The London Community Foundation.
