Rachel Peart, Photographs Specialist and Head of Sale, said, “We were honored to work with Peter Fetterman in the sale of these photographs, which encompass the true breadth of the photographer’s creative output. Henri Cartier-Bresson’s significance cannot be overstated within the canon of photographic history and our results are a testament to the enduring demand for his work. In today’s auction, we had global participation, with bidders from the US to India to South Africa all vying for these important works of art. Photographs from Cartier-Bresson’s travels across Europe performed particularly well, with Hyères, France leading the sale at $100,000, achieving over eight times its estimate.”

Peter Fetterman, Collector, and Owner of the Peter Fetterman Gallery in Santa Monica, said, “Henri Cartier-Bresson played a tremendous role in my life and after spending four decades acquiring these photographs, I am delighted to see that they have found homes where they will no doubt be as cherished by their new guardians as they were by me. I am also pleased to announce that I plan to bring Henri’s legacy forward in helping the next generation of photographers. Proceeds from this sale will be used to fund a new publishing programme for books by emerging photographers, beginning with “Reverence” by American landscape photographer Jeffrey Conley, which will be released in January 2018.”
