Genevieve Janvrin and Yuka Yamaji, Co-Heads of Photographs, Europe, said, “These industry leading results mark the highest ever total for a Phillips Photographs sale in London. We were thrilled to present our inaugural ULTIMATE Evening Sale, which was 96% sold and established a world auction record for Helmut Newton, breaking Phillips’ previous record set in 2015. Further standout results were achieved for Robert Mapplethorpe and Peter Beard. As we continue our celebration of 1970s Japanese photography, we are thrilled to establish world auction records for the three women artists, including our cover lot by Ishiuchi Miyako. A true highlight of the sales was POLAROIDS from the Piero Bisazza Collection, which was 100% sold. The Michel and Sally Strauss Contemporary Photography Collection in the Photographs Day Sale was 97% sold, and saw world auction records for Nadav Kander and Michael Wolf.”
