Rebecca Tooby-Desmond, Specialist, Head of Sale, and Auctioneer, said, “We are delighted with the enthusiasm for Phillips’ Editions auctions this week, culminating in a combined sale total of £3.8 million. The international collecting community vied for works across our varied curation in all mediums, celebrating the diversity of the category and reaffirming the strong appetite for exceptional Modern and Contemporary editions. Keith Haring’s Dog sculpture realised £355,600, alongside strong results for screenprints by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, highlighting the continued appreciation for editions from the Pop art movement. From Pop to Op, Bridget Riley’s early monochrome Untitled (Oval Image) soared to over three times its presale estimate, achieving £82,550 and setting a world auction record. We also saw an exceptional result and record for Richard Serra’s monumental etching, Finally Finished III which made its auction debut and sold for over double the high estimate at £69,850. The Editions momentum continues as we eagerly anticipate our inaugural Editions, Photographs, and Design auction in Hong Kong on June 14, followed by our Editions & Works on Paper auction in New York on June 27.”

Robert Kennan, Head of Editions, Europe, said, “We are thrilled with the success of our second annual dedicated Pablo Picasso auction which achieved impressive sell-through rates of 98% by value and 93% by lot, as well as three world auction records. These results are testament to Picasso’s extraordinary artistic legacy and enduring international appeal. The auction showcased a wide range of Picasso’s work, from early works on paper dating back to 1905-06, to ceramics from the 1950s, and etchings from the 1970s. Among the highlights, Femme du barbu took a prominent lead, achieving double its presale estimate. Additionally, we were particularly thrilled with the result of £38,100 realised for Vase au décor pastel, which soared to over four times its presale estimate. This sale not only celebrates Picasso’s expansive body of work but also underscores our deep commitment to Modern and Post-War edition collecting. We are delighted that this dedicated Picasso sale has established a permanent place in our Editions auction calendar.”
