Phillips’ New York Jewels Auction Achieves $2.8 Million

Eva Violante, Head of Department, Americas, said, “The New York Jewels Auction saw a great deal of participation from across the globe, leading to strong prices for important pieces spanning style and price points. Leading the auction was an exquisite 9.81-carat emerald and diamond ring, which doubled its estimate at $165,000, selling to a bidder on the phone. Signed jewels also performed well, with examples by Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, and Bulgari all figuring prominently in the top ten. Bulgari’s emerald and diamond ear clips more-than-quadrupled its estimate at $107,850 and the enthusiasm for Cartier’s Diamond Necklace, 'Méandres-Bavoir', 1953, was extraordinary. Designed as a gold wave of undulating fringe set with brilliant-cut diamonds, the necklace realized $146,050 against an estimate of just $40,000-60,000.
