PRESS RELEASE
PHILLIPS’ NEW YORK DESIGN AUCTION DOUBLES PRE-SALE ESTIMATE
Guy de Rougemont’s “Nuage” Table Leads the Sale, Shattering Artist’s Previous Record
New York, 13 September 2025 Sale Total: $3,212,616 / £2,402,722 / €2,735,027
Cecilia Moure, Associate Specialist, Head of Sale, Design, said, “Our Design auction in New York delivered strong results, with standout performances across categories. The sale opened with Harry Bertoia’s “Bush” sculpture selling for more than twice its estimate, setting an energetic tone that carried through the sale. Guy de Rougemont’s “Nuage” illuminated coffee table led the auction, achieving more than five times its estimate and setting a new record for the artist. British studio pottery remains a category where Phillips consistently excels, and this sale reinforced that strength: Elizabeth Fritsch’s vase more than doubled its estimate, following the record set for her work in London last month, while Hans Coper’s footed pot also drew strong bidding, achieving a price more than twice its estimate. Historic design captured attention, with a Herter Brothers side chair designed for the John Pierpont Morgan residence nearly quadrupling its estimate, underscoring the enduring fascination with the Gilded Age. As our final sale of the season, we thank our clients for their continued support and wish everyone a joyful holiday season.”
