Benjamin Green, Associate Specialist, Head of Sale, Design, said, “It was wonderful to see such enthusiastic participation in our June Design auction, especially for the selection of works by Alberto and Diego Giacometti, which performed exceptionally well. These impressive pieces from the esteemed collection of Diana F. Shapiro are exceptional examples of the brothers’ designs and reflect the caliber of Design in which Phillips prides ourselves. The “Berceau” low table, second version, Tabouret à la harpie, and “Figure” floor lamp attracted bidders from across the globe, soaring past their estimates and leading the auction. We also saw strong prices for Harry Bertoia's Untitled (Straw Form), which sold for nearly three times its estimate, and Ivan da Silva Bruhns' Carpet, which achieved $177,800 against an estimate of just $25,000-35,000.”

Patrizia Koenig, Specialist, Modern & Contemporary Art, and Benjamin Green, Associate Specialist, Head of Sale, Design, said, “Bringing together a terrific group of works that spanned art and design from the past century, FREESTYLE: Living with Art & Design, Property from a Private New York Collection is emblematic of the spirit that has come to define Phillips. The sale achieved strong results, featuring a diverse array of works by both established and emerging artists and designers. The positive response from collectors underscored this wonderful and unique collection's appeal, as well as Phillips' dedication to celebrating artistic diversity and innovation. From Jean and Henri Prouvé’s Long Bench, which sold for $76,200 against an estimate of $30,000-50,000, to Lois Dodd’s Broad Cove on a Cloudy Day, which realized three times its estimate, we were proud to present a selection of Post-War and Contemporary art, design, and editions that encapsulated the true breadth of possibilities in collecting.”
