Hong Kong Head of Auctions and Auctioneer Danielle So selling lot 182, Zao Wou-Ki’s Untitled

Danielle So, Hong Kong Head of Auctions, Phillips, and Rebecca Hu, Head of Sale, Modern & Contemporary Art, Phillips Hong Kong, jointly said: "Innovation lies at the heart of Phillips’ DNA. We are constantly looking to improve and evolve our business, and this season we introduced Priority Bidding—a first-of-its-kind Buyer’s Premium structure that rewards early participation with lower rates. The results have been encouraging, with the 116 lots sold across our Modern & Contemporary Art Evening and Day Sales in Hong Kong, 54% benefited from priority bids. Building on the success of yesterday’s Evening Sale, which saw strong demand for works by 20th-century masters, today’s Day Sale carried the momentum forward. Works by Zao Wou-Ki, Chu Teh-Chun, Sanyu, Mai Trung Thứ, Ju Ming, and Li Chen achieved results well above their pre-sale estimates. Having established ourselves in recent years as a leading auction house for Yoshitomo Nara, we were delighted to once again achieve strong results for the artist’s work in the Day Sale, followed by the star lot Pinky, which headlined our Evening Sale yesterday.”
