PRESS RELEASE
PHILLIPS’ LONDON EVENING SALE OF MODERN & CONTEMPORARY ART ACHIEVES £10.3 MILLION
Led by Jean-Michel Basquiat’s 1982 Untitled (Pestus), with a New World Auction Record Set for Emma McIntyre
London, 16 October 2025 Sale Total: £10,332,200 / $13,884,410 / €11,906,827
Olivia Thornton, Head of Modern & Contemporary Art, Europe, said, “Frieze Week has once again magnetised global collectors to the capital, as London remains the cultural crossroads of the global art market. The energy carried into our saleroom, with the top lot being Basquiat’s Untitled (Pestus) from 1982, widely considered his breakthrough year. Equally striking was the appetite for works by younger voices, with a new world auction record set for Emma McIntyre, and strong prices achieved for Flora Yukhnovich and Sasha Gordon. Also commanding fierce attention were works by Derek Fordjour, Martha Jungwirth, and Sean Scully, all of which outperformed their high estimates. We were proud to offer a sale that reflects the vibrancy of contemporary collecting and look forward to our upcoming Day Sale on Saturday, along with our Modern & Contemporary Art auctions in New York next month.”
