Domenico Raimondo, Phillips’ Head of Design, Europe, and Senior International Specialist, said, “We are delighted with the result of £3.5 million and sell through rates of 97% by value and 94% by lot achieved today. It was a joy to witness such spirited global participation, with collectors from over 42 countries taking part—an emphatic testament to the enduring demand for exceptional, rare, and high-quality 20th and 21st century design. Highlights of the sale included Judy Kensley McKie’s ‘Leopard Couch’, which sparked enthusiastic bidding. Italian design performed particularly well, with standout results for Carlo Scarpa’s Rare ceiling light, which soared to more than four times its presale estimate, and Ettore Sottsass Jr.’s Early and rare lidded jar, which nearly tripled its estimate. French design also made a strong showing, with two works by Jean Royère ranking among the top ten lots. In the centennial year of the Art Deco movement, Ivan da Silva Bruhns’ Large Carpet achieved three times its estimate, while Nordic design was led by Josef Frank’s beautiful ‘Flora’ cabinet, which sold for over three times its estimate. We are thrilled with the momentum and look forward to continuing this success at our upcoming Design auction in New York this June.”
