MILAN – 6 September 2023 – Phillips is proud to announce the launch of its new space in Milan, located on Via Lanzone, in the very heart of the city. The expansion underscores Phillips’ commitment to Italy and investment across Europe. The opening of this space marks the next stage in building a long-term and commanding presence in Italy, providing the opportunity to exhibit works of art, design, photographs, editions, jewels, and watches from Phillips’ sales across London, New York, Hong Kong, and Geneva. The new space will include an office and gallery in which to host curated exhibitions, previews, and exclusive events, providing art enthusiasts based in or visiting Italy a firsthand experience of Phillips’ distinct offerings.

Carolina Lanfranchi, Regional Director, Italy, said, “We are incredibly excited to open our stunning new space in Milan, the art and design capital of Italy and home to an ever-growing community of art and design tastemakers, who enjoy a rich cultural exchange and have an increasing appetite to collect. With its artistic heritage and creative energy, Milan provides the perfect backdrop for us to continue our mission of connecting exceptional works of Modern and Contemporary art, design and luxury items with our passionate community of collectors. Our new space is strategically located in the historic center, placing Phillips at the heart of Milan's cultural and artistic activities. A contemporary office and gallery within a historic Milanese building, this new space embodies our distinctly Phillips perspective. We look forward to welcoming visitors and to further cultivating our relationships with the collecting community across Italy, delivering best-in-class services and engagement opportunities through Phillips’ dynamic array of partnerships, exhibitions, and programmes.”

Cheyenne Westphal, Global Chairwoman, said, “We are thrilled to further establish our presence in Milan, a city that resonates deeply with artistic expression and cultural exploration. Phillips has made great headway in establishing itself in this region. The new office not only signifies our expansion but also represents our commitment to fostering a deeper connection with collectors, while also extending our global reach. There is an increasing appetite to invest in art, design and watches amongst Italian buyers and this beautiful new space will be transformative for us, providing the perfect platform from which to engage with the collecting community in Milan and across the region.”

Phillips' newly established Milan office and exhibition space finds it home on Via Lanzone, nestled within Milan's historic center, between the Via Circo and the bustling piazza Sant'Ambrogio. The building itself maintains its impressive VI façade while the interior is largely mid-century, having been destroyed during WW2 and rebuilt in the years after. The interior was designed and rebuilt post war by renowned architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni. To preserve the remarkable characteristics of the building, Phillips have worked closely with Caccia Dominioni’s daughter and granddaughter to source mid-century Italian design features and acquire furniture in keeping with and in respect of the designs laid out by the famous architect. This new space is poised to become a hub for art enthusiasts, collectors, and connoisseurs alike, where Phillips' team of experts will offer bespoke guidance, valuations, and insights to seasoned collectors and those new to the art world. The setting will include an office for Phillips representatives based in Italy, private meeting spaces for Phillips’ global team visiting Italy, as well as an exhibition and event space. Phillips worldwide team includes a number of specialists fluent in Italian, with the Milan team including Carolina Lanfranchi, Phillips Regional Director for Italy, and Margherita Solaini, Associate Director and Specialist in 20th Century & Contemporary Art.

To celebrate the launch of the space, Phillips will be hosting an exhibition from 13 to 15 September featuring highlights works to be included in Phillips’ respective October and November 20th Century & Contemporary Art auctions in London and New York.
