Kimberley Wong, Head of Sale, Modern & Contemporary Art, Phillips, said: “We are delighted with the strong results achieved in today’s Hong Kong Modern & Contemporary Art sale, which surpassed its pre-sale high estimate by 33%, underscoring the continued strength and depth of the market in Asia. Buyers from Mainland China were the most active, accounting for nearly 30% of buyers in the sale. The sale was led by outstanding performances from Matthew Wong and Lee Ufan, with Wong’s The Recluse realising over HK$14 million/ US$1.8 million, 1.66 times its pre-sale high estimate; and Lee’s With Winds achieving more than HK$2.7 million/ US$345,668, over double its high estimate. The top ten lots reflected a compelling dialogue between modern masters and leading contemporary voices, from Lee Ufan and Chen Yifei to Yayoi Kusama, Chiharu Shiota, Diane Dal-Pra, and Claire Tabouret, demonstrating the region's diversity and dynamism in collecting. With a 97% sell-through rate, these results underscore our commitment to thoughtful curation. We look forward to presenting more exceptional works during our Hong Kong marquee sales this September.
