Anastasia Salnikoff, Head of Day Sale, 20th Century & Contemporary Art, Phillips Hong Kong, said: “With sell-through rates of 80% sold by lot, which shows solid demand, our Day Sale result indicates confidence among collectors of 20th Century & Contemporary Art and delivers a positive message to the market. To ensure that Asian artists get their deserved spotlight, this season, we have increased the proportion of works by Asian artists in our Hong Kong Sales. We are pleased to see that eight of the top ten works sold in the Day Sale were produced by some of the most sought-after Asian names including Yayoi Kusama, Zeng Fanzhi, Ayako Rokkaku and Liang Yuanwei. And we are particularly delighted with remarkable results for Hong Kong artists, such as Stephen Wong Chun Hei’s work MacLehose Trail: Section 10 which sold for double its pre-sale high estimate and set the artist’s auction record. We look forward to the launch of ‘New Now & Design’ sale in our new galleries in West Kowloon, Hong Kong in late November.”
