Benoît Repellin, Phillips’ Worldwide Head of Jewellery, said: “These results are a testament to the global appeal of signed jewels and pieces of distinguished provenance among our international collectors. To present the inaugural ‘Collections & Provenance’ section as part of The Geneva Jewels Auction: VI, during Phillips’ 230th anniversary year, was a particularly meaningful moment for us. We were especially pleased by the strong response to this new category, which was 97% sold, with 70% of sold lots achieving prices above their high estimates. We were honoured once again by the trust placed in us by members of The Vanderbilt Family, whose historic jewels and objects achieved a 100% sold result, following the white-glove success of the Vanderbilt jewels offered in November last year. The sale was led by the rare and iconic Van Cleef & Arpels ‘Zip’ necklace, while signed jewels continued to demonstrate remarkable strength throughout the auction, with 93% sold and 80% of sold lots exceeding their high estimates. Rubies performed especially well throughout the auction, most notably the Chaumet ruby and diamond pendent necklace, which realised more than ten times its low estimate. We were delighted to welcome over 3,000 visitors during the preview and sale and look forward to our next live sale in New York, taking place on 10 June.”
