NEW YORK – 1 FEBRUARY 2024 – Phillips’ February Dropshop will feature Rob Pruitt’s Hoarfrost Pandas in eight variations, each an edition of 30. The new edition silkscreens will be available to be purchased separately, in sets of four, or all together for the complete set. The inspiration for Hoarfrost Pandas comes from the phenomenon of hoarfrost, when moisture on a clear night becomes frozen and creates a feathery, fluffier frost, and features Pruitt’s iconic panda immersed in the cool, glistening environment. The Drop will begin at 10am EST on 6 February at dropshop.phillips.com.
Rob Pruitt said, "I'm delighted to share my new Hoarfrost Pandas through Phillips' Dropshop platform. There’s a majesty found in nature that is hand in hand with the expression awe-inspiring; much more so than anything man has created or achieved. And the pathos of this is that we have proven ourselves to be such unreliable custodians of the planet, seemingly steering our world towards its demise. A lot of the art I make is an attempt to contribute to the chorus of warning bells currently sounding for this predicament.”
Chris Miele, Phillips’ Retail Sales Director, Ecommerce, said, “We are delighted to showcase such an iconic set of works by Rob Pruitt in February’s Dropshop release. Rob’s oeuvre has demonstrated a unique ability to appeal to such a wide audience, spanning broad collector tastes and geographical barriers. His conceptual depth also adds layers to his art, engaging viewers on both an intellectual and emotional level. His Hoarfrost Pandas does just that and we look forward to what is sure to be an enthusiastic response from our community.”
ABOUT THE ARTIST Rob Pruitt’s work is characterized by a fearless embrace of the present, social responsibility, and protean versatility. His output ranges from glitter canvases of panda bears, 2,922 paintings of President Obama painted one per day for each day in office, an eBay charity Flea Market, a Hollywood-style art awards ceremony, and an ongoing daily Instagram calendar of personal and public events.
Rob Pruitt (b. Washington D.C., 1964) has shown internationally since the early 1990’s, with exhibitions at Rebuild Foundation, Chicago (2019); Kunsthalle Zurich, Zurich (2017); the Brant Foundation in Greenwich (2015); Aspen Art Museum (2013); Dallas Contemporary (2011); Museum of Contemporary Art, Detroit (2015); Freiburg Kunstverein (2012); Le Consortium, Dijon (2002); and group shows at Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome (2012); Tate Modern (2009); Punta Della Dogana/Palazzo Grassi, Venice (2009).
