Rebecca Tooby-Desmond, Head of Sale and Auctioneer, said, “We are delighted to have achieved the highest ever total for an Evening & Day Editions auction in London, with the result of £4.7 million exceeding the pre-sale high estimate by 32%. These results are a testament to the strength of our international team, who put together an on-the-pulse sale that truly met the demands of current collecting trends, demonstrated by the response from 730 bidders from 52 countries worldwide. The success of this approach was reflected by the strong market response to our top lots by blue-chip artists including Andy Warhol, David Hockney and Roy Lichtenstein, all of which achieved world auction records. There was incredibly spirited bidding for both contemporary and modern works, with further records achieved for Grayson Perry and Jonas Wood, and strong results for William Kentridge, Marc Chagall and Joan Miró. Most of all, it was a joy to throw open our doors at Berkeley Square and welcome visitors to view the works in person once more. We look forward to welcoming visitors to view the next Editions auction which will take place in New York this October at our brand-new space at 432 Park Avenue.”

An energized saleroom saw strong international participation with bidders from 21 countries worldwide who joined the auction on the phone, and through our digital platforms, with a quarter of the lots selling to online bidders. We are proud to have presented such a varied group of Beuys editions and original works, and helped to cement the legacy of this important post-war artist”
