Rebecca Tooby-Desmond, Specialist, Head of Sale, and Auctioneer, said, “We’re delighted to announce the success of our first live auction of 2024, achieving an impressive £4.2 million and sell-through rates of 96% by value and 93% by lot. These results underscore Phillips’ position at the forefront of the Editions market and the strength of our unparalleled offering. We saw enthusiastic bidding from collectors in our busy saleroom, as well as via phone and online from over 1050 participants spanning 48 countries worldwide. A special highlight was the exceptional interest and spirited international bidding for works from the Archive of Edition Schellmann, leading to prices that soared over the high estimates. Notably, four of the top ten works sold came from the Archive of Edition Schellmann, with Keith Haring’s iconic Totem taking the lead. We are particularly pleased with the strong results achieved for iconic and rare to market works by Andy Warhol as well as innovative, boundary-pushing editions by Ed Ruscha, Donald Judd, and Daniel Buren. Phillips continues to redefine the Editions category, and we are thrilled to have begun 2024 on a high note. We look forward to continuing this momentum in New York with our live Editions auction and our exceptional sale of Works form the James Rosenquist Estate, both of which will take place on 15 February.”
