Vanessa Hallett, Deputy Chairwoman and Worldwide Head of Photographs, said “The results of our two-day run of Photographs sales are proof of a vibrant market. Not only did we achieve stellar prices for classic photographs, our results for post-war and contemporary work are a testament to the enthusiasm of our collectors. We were especially gratified by the robust results from Photographs from the Martin Z. Margulies Foundation as the sale’s proceeds will help continue the Foundation’s important work. Alec Soth’s Charles, Vasa, Minnesota, achieved $152,400 against an estimate of $50,000-70,000, setting a new world auction record for the artist, and Harry Callahan’s Eleanor/Silhouette (Chicago), realized $76,200, over three times its low estimate. We look forward to welcoming our international community of bidders to our May sale in London.”
