Rebecca Tooby-Desmond, Head of Sale and Auctioneer, said, “What a fantastic way to start the year. Achieving over £5 million and selling 99% by value and 97% by lot, the auctions were led by our first ever White Glove Editions Evening sale. An energised saleroom saw the return of bidders in the room as well as participants from over 55 countries worldwide bidding on the phone, and online. These results demonstrate our continued strength across the Modern and Contemporary market and is testament that the combined offering of these works continues to appeal to collectors around the globe. World auction records were achieved for contemporary masters such as Banksy, David Hockney and Andy Warhol, and Warhol’s Queen Elizabeth II brought in the top price in the auction and in the Queen’s Jubilee year. We are thrilled to have started 2022 on such a high. It is set to be another phenomenal year for Phillips Editions, and we look forward to continuing this momentum with our New York Modern & Contemporary Editions auctions on the 11th of March.”
