Results from the June Contemporary Art Evening Sale in London

PHILLIPS CONTEMPORARY ART EVENING SALE REALISES £18.2 MILLION / $28.6 MILLION / €25.6 MILLION.

LONDON – 29 June 2015 – Phillips Contemporary Art Evening Auction realised £18,192,400 / $28,562,068 / €25,651,284 selling 84% by lot and 89% by value.

“This evening’s auction offered a diverse range of Contemporary Art and attracted a broad pool of bidders with nine artists represented in the top ten lots. We are pleased to have realised strong results and to have doubled the total of the equivalent auction last year. The market continues to react best to works of art which are offered with sensible and appealing estimates, and we’re thrilled in particular to have seen such a strong result for Ai Weiwei’s ‘Zodiac Heads’ which set a new record for the artist, surpassing the previous result at Phillip’s in February, and also for Ed Ruscha’s ‘Ship Talk’ which attracted seven bidders before selling for over twice its low estimate.” Peter Sumner, Director, Head of Contemporary Art, London.
