Alex Heminway, Head of Design, Americas, and Cordelia Lembo, Head of Sale, Design, said, “We are pleased to conclude Phillips’ spring season in New York with today’s solid results. There was strong demand for French postwar works across the board and we were delighted to see Jean Prouvé’s Cabinet, model no. 152 soar to $190,000, nearly doubling its low estimate. Ron Arad’s impressive “Oh, the Farmer and the Cowman Should be Friends” led the sale, realizing $298,000. Ceramics also performed quite well with all of our works by Lucie Rie selling within or above estimate and with Akiyama Yo’s Untitled “MV-1011” setting a new auction record for the artist. We look forward to the fall season, in which we will continue to bring together the finest works of 20th and 21st century design.”
