Robert Kennan, Head of Editions, Europe: “2018 continues to be an exceptional year for Editions at Phillips. Carrying on from the record sales in January and April, the £3,422,313 result realised yesterday was a record total for a June sale in London. With works spanning three centuries, from Toulouse-Lautrec to KAWS, variety was undoubtedly the strength of this season’s sale and what made it so appealing. The saleroom was fueled with excitement and bidding online hyperactive with a total of 701 online bidders winning, from every corner of the globe across over 40 countries; a reflection of just how accessible Editions is as a collecting category. The highest price of the sale was £489,000 for the stunning Cy Twombly set, which saw competitive bidding from European and American telephones. 18 auction records tumbled in our Evening Sale for Hockney, Basquiat, Lichtenstein, Warhol and Haring. More records fell in the Day Sale, five from the exceptional Richard Hamilton collection. We look forward to our next sale to be held in New York this fall.”
