Cordelia Lembo, Head of Design, New York, said, “The June sale confirms a strong, discerning market with collectors of all interests participating from twenty-six countries, vying for high quality and rare-to-market works of twentieth and twenty-first century design. Alberto Giacometti’s “Tête de femme” table lamp led the sale after nearly tripling its low estimate at $375,000 and we were pleased to set new auction records for Ingrid Donat, Marcel Wanders, and Pierre Chapo, as well as introduce Chris Schanck to the secondary market to a great result. Works by 20th century American designers performed exceptionally well, as Isamu Noguchi’s Rare chess table, model no. IN-61 more-than-doubled its estimate at $325,000, setting a new world auction record for this design by the artist, and Wendell Castle’s unique “Butterfly Love Seat” reached $106,250. We also saw enthusiasm among collectors for British and American ceramics from the collection of Diane and Marc Grainer, which set several new artist records, and for works of French postwar furniture from the collection of Raf Simons.”
