GENEVA – 23 APRIL 2019 – Phillips in Association with
Bacs & Russo announces further highlights from The Geneva Watch Auction: NINE. The sale presents 220 collectors’ watches of the
highest quality, including some of the most captivating and historically
important collectors’ watches presented at auction in recent years. Taking
place on the weekend of 11 & 12 May at Hôtel La Réserve, the variety of
timepieces have all been produced by the most renowned watch
manufacturers or independent makers of the 20th and 21st century.
A
leading highlight is the rare and historically significant chronograph
wristwatch reference 16528 (case back stamped 16500) in yellow gold, having been
offered by Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna to Angelo Parrilla (estimate: CHF
100’000 to 200’000). The early floating dial Daytona reference 16528 is a
tribute to the man who helped shape Senna’s career from the start, as attested
by the message engraved on the caseback: “A Angelo da Ayrton 1978”. Its
recipient was Angelo Parrilla, a legend in Karting and the founder of DAP who
“discovered” and brought Senna to Italy by establishing a relationship with the
then 18-year-old that went far beyond the sporting association.
In
addition to the two major highlights announced previously – the Vacheron Constantin
“Don Pancho” and the George Daniels
Grand Complication – the
auction will include an exceptional selection of modern and vintage Patek
Philippe references. A true highlight is the exquisite Patek Philippe jewellery
timepiece reference 4321-2 circa 1975, from the collection of renowned multi-award
winning French actress Catherine Deneuve.
Two high-end
Patek Philippe highlights in
platinum are included in the auction – a very rare and highly important minute repeating, single-button chronograph
reference 5208P wristwatch with
instantaneous perpetual calendar (estimate: CHF 550’000 to 950’000), and an
incredibly rare reference 5078,
minute repeating wristwatch with enamel dial (estimate: CHF 180’000 to 360’000).
A world-class selection of vintage Patek Philippe references includes
an extremely rare and very well preserved
perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch reference
1518 in yellow gold (estimate: CHF 250’000 to 500’000). This
watch was consigned to auction by the original owner’s family, an important Brazilian attorney and real-estate
developer offered with original box, certificate, invoice and user manual.
Other examples include a pink
gold split seconds chronograph wristwatch reference
1436 with pink dial (estimate: CHF 300’000 to 500’000), and a
rare stainless steel and pink gold
chronograph wristwatch reference 130
with two-tone pink dial from 1947 (estimate: CHF 150’000 to
200’000).
Alongside this
impressive selection of Patek Philippe watches, Phillips is proud to offer some
of the most coveted Rolex references.
These include an exceptionally
well-preserved triple calendar wristwatch with moonphases and two-tone dial “Padellone” reference 8171 in yellow
gold (estimate: CHF 400’000 to 800’000), and an attractive 14K yellow gold chronograph wristwatch
reference 6241 with Paul Newman
"John Player Special" dial (estimate: CHF 350’000 to
700’000).
Finally, Submariner references, one of the most
iconic Rolex models, will be on show - including a fresh to the market, extremely rare early stainless
steel diver's wristwatch reference 6200
from circa 1954 with black glossy "Explorer" dial, from the original
owner’s family (estimate: CHF 300’000 to 600’000), and a very attractive new old stock
diver’s watch reference 5508 (estimate:
CHF 80’000 to 160’000).
