HONG KONG – 23 October 2018 – Phillips in association with Bacs & Russo is pleased to announce the Hong Kong Watch Auction: SEVEN, which will be held on 27 November 2018 at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong. Comprising over 250 lots, the tightly curated sale will offer a meticulous selection of fine, collectable timepieces in excellent condition, all manufactured by the world’s most renowned watchmakers. Modern and vintage wristwatches, fine pocket watches and enamel clocks, including a line-up of fresh-to-the-market examples, will be on offer.
Thomas Perazzi, Head of Watches, Phillips, Asia, said: “Following the success of our May sale in Hong Kong, which was warmly-received by the international community of discerning watch collectors, Phillips is delighted to present the seventh installment of Hong Kong Watch Auction this November. As we continue to expand our presence in the worldwide watch-collecting community, we will embark on Phillips Asia’s largest global watch auction preview tour – from our debut preview in Bangkok to Singapore, Shanghai, Taipei, London and Geneva. This endeavour is a testament to our commitment to offering the best-in-class quality, service and scholarship.
This season, we are excited to offer, yet again, a large selection of vintage timepieces at auction in Asia, whereby over half of the sale are vintage examples. Highlights include a highly attractive Rolex Reference 6241 ‘John Player Special’ 18K yellow gold chronograph wristwatch, made circa 1968, from an Italian private collection, and a superlatives-abound Patek Philippe Reference 3448 white gold perpetual calendar wristwatch, made circa 1971, coming from the family of the original owner who bought such masterpiece from an official Patek Philippe retailer in Zurich in the early 1970s. We are also delighted to offer limited editions of contemporary wristwatches – one of the six highly attractive and rare Richard Mille ‘RM 52-01’ ‘Skull’ wristwatches and an extremely elegant and rare Patek Philippe Reference 5079-J001 18K yellow gold ‘Cathedral’ minute repeating wristwatch which has been discontinued. It is a particular privilege to have been entrusted by the founder of De Bethune with the sale of two timepieces from his private collection. I, together with the global team, look forward to welcoming watch collectors and aficionados to our previews around the world and auction in Hong Kong.”
IMPORTANT HIGHLY COMPLICATED CONTEMPORARY WRISTWATCHES
This is the first time for a Richard Mille “RM52” “Skull” – especially manufactured for the Asia market - and Ulysse Nardine’s bejewelled Genghis Khan model to be offered at auction. In excellent condition, a rare and exceptional Greubel Forsey platinum double tourbillon wristwatch will also make its debut appearance at auction. De Bethune’s DB25T and DB28T from the private collection of the manufacturer’s founder are notable lots that cannot be missed.
IMPORTANT HIGHLY COMPLICATED CONTEMPORARY PATEK PHILIPPE WRISTWATCHES
Phillips is honoured to offer an array of rare and prestigious contemporary Patek Philippe wristwatches in Hong Kong. This is the first time for a London Edition of Reference 3970R re-introduced in 2015 to be offered at auction. Two legendary 5004 models will be on offer - a 5004A in pristine condition will be offered; additionally, a possibly unique 5004J yellow gold example is expected to bring intense bidding. Limited editions are amassed this season - the elegant Reference 5079J featuring “cathedral” gongs is one of the 70 examples ever made; 5020P is one of the less than 20 examples cased in platinum.
IMPORTANT VINTAGE PATEK PHILIPPE WRISTWATCHES
Highly appealing and collectible vintage Patek Philippe wristwatches in excellent condition are selected for this season, the highlight of which is a Reference 3448 “Padellone” offered for the first time at auction. Boasting all the best qualities, the present example comes from the family of the original owner who acquired this stunning example in the 1970s in Zurich. Iconic and classic references such as 130, 1463, 1518 and 2497 together offer a comprehensive glimpse of the history of haute horlogerie and Patek Philippe’s outstanding craftsmanship, enticing both scholars and collectors alike.
IMPORTANT VINTAGE ROLEX WRISTWATCHES
Phillips is honoured to offer a Rolex Reference 6241 “John Player Special” this season. Fresh to the market, this exceedingly rare variant of the “Paul Newman” model is notably one of a few handful known “John Player Special” cased in 18K yellow gold. Other exquisite vintage Rolex wristwatches include a highly sought-after and extremely rare Reference 6265 “Oyster Cosmograph” “3 liner” cased in yellow gold and a fresh-to-the-market Reference 3525 with “salmon dial”, both are stylish examples thus great additions to any watch collections.
IMPORTANT HIGHLY COMPLICATED PATEK PHILIPPE POCKET WATCHES
Even though wristwatches dominate the current international market place, collectors worldwide are also after complicated pocket watches, which serve as an excellent window to the traditional workmanship of a bygone era.
