Robert Kennan, Head of Editions, Europe: “Carrying on from the success of our last auction in January, which set a record for the highest sale total for Editions in London, today’s auction is a testimony to the continued demand for Editions across the globe. The sale’s cover lot, Andy Warhol’s Beethoven, far exceeded its high estimate, and set a new world record for this set at auction. Further standout results were achieved for Basquiat and a selection of works by Modern British artists, led by Freud and Hirst. The international appeal of the sale resulted in bidders from across 43 countries, including over 600 online bidders, bringing the sale total to £2,597,438, considerably above the pre-sale high estimate. We look forward to continuing this momentum in the lead up to our October New York Editions sale which will be followed by our January ’18 sale in London.”
