Art Jakarta: 30 August to 1 September 2019, JCC Senayan
JAKARTA – 7 AUGUST 2019 – Phillips will present a cross-category exhibition at the 11th edition of Art Jakarta from 30 August to 1 September 2019, following the success of the auction house’s first engagement with an art fair in Jakarta in May. The exhibition marks another step forward as Phillips continues to invest in South East Asia and engage with the growing number of new and existing collectors in the region. Phillips’ booth will comprise a curated selection of artworks by contemporary artists including KAWS, Jeff Koons, Yoshitomo Nara, Takashi Murakami, Madsaki, Damien Hirst, and Jia Aili. Alongside these works, Phillips will present a tightly curated selection of watches and fine jewellery, featuring exceptional gemstones.
Art Jakarta will be held at a new venue this year, fast placing Jakarta as one of the key centers of Asian contemporary art and strengthening Indonesia's position as one of the most important art hubs in Asia. In addition to the cross-category exhibition, Phillips is honored to participate in the charity programme as the official Auctioneer, which will involve the auction of 10 carpets made by a group of renowned Indonesian artists, and raising funds to support the local art scene.
Jonathan Crockett, Deputy Chairman and Head of 20th Century & Contemporary Art, Asia, said: “The collecting scene in Indonesia is expanding rapidly, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to engage with established major Indonesian collectors as well as a new generation of collectors from this growing market. By participating in one of Indonesia’s leading art fairs, along with our recent appointments in South East Asia, Phillips is building steady momentum with its continued expansion into this highly significant region. Our approach of combining our presentation of artworks, watches and jewellery, all with a focus on the 20th and 21st centuries, will have strong resonance with Indonesia’s ever-expanding collecting community.”
Building on the company’s significant expansion across Asia, Phillips recently named Vivi Yip as Senior Consultant in Indonesia, based in Jakarta. In the past year, Phillips has also appointed Christine Fernando as Associate Regional Representative based in Singapore, along with Sandy Ma’s new role as International Specialist, 20th Century & Contemporary Art, with responsibility for growing the South East Asian market.
