Alexander Payne, Worldwide Head of Design, said: “Today’s auctions totalled £4,493,150 and had huge international reach as we saw global participation from buyers across all five continents. The Design sale was led by French Master Jean Royère’s Sofa and pair of armchairs which sold for five times the estimate. Year on year, we continue to see collectors competing for exciting pieces of Decorative Art and Design that are presented in a highly curated format and that are essential works for today’s clientele. The response to the three ceramic pieces by Axel Salto captivated the sale room, with two of the pieces coming directly from the family of the artist. We are looking forward to our 20th Century & Contemporary Art & Design Evening Sale in Hong Kong on 27 November, which will continue to present exceptional works of 20th Century and Contemporary Design to a global audience. The season will finish with our week of Design sales in New York opening on 7 December.”
