Alexander Payne, Worldwide Director of Design, said, “On the heels of our successful Design Week in London, Phillips’ first New York sale of 2016 has underscored the continued demand for high-quality examples of 20th century design, particularly French Mid-Century pieces. Works by Jean Royère performed exceptionally well, with the “Ours Polaire” sofa realising over twice its pre-sale estimate. Italian post-war lighting also saw a great deal of interest, as the record price for a work by Franco Albini was broken and many pieces by Gino Sarfatti sold well above estimate. We very much look forward to our next sale in London in September.”
