We saw tremendous enthusiasm from bidders across the globe with participation on six continents, leading to a particularly impressive response for works by women photographers. Dorothea Lange’s Migrant Mother, Nipomo, California led the auction and it was wonderful to see such a strong response for Carrie Mae Weems’ Untitled (man smoking) from Kitchen Table Series, which nearly tripled its low estimate, setting a new record for a single print by the artist at $70,000. New records were also set for Graciela Iturbide, whose Mujer ángel, Desierto de Sonora, México sold for five times its low estimate, as well as Bob Adelman and David Montgomery. With this sale, we conclude our spring photographs auctions and look forward to the next sale in October.”
