Nina Piro, Specialist, Associate Vice President, 20th Century and Contemporary Art, said, “It was a pleasure to welcome so many visitors to our New York galleries this summer, where they previewed Phillips’ Modern & Contemporary Art auction alongside Hoarder VI: The Migration, an online sale of works from Kenny Schachter’s personal collection. Despite the heat, the galleries were full — collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts engaged with the works on view, sparking meaningful conversations around both sales.

With participation from nearly 50 countries, Wednesday’s Modern & Contemporary Art auction reaffirmed the global demand for 20th century and contemporary art. Helen Frankenthaler’s Untitled led the sale, achieving $228,600 — nearly three times its low estimate. Ilya Bolotowsky’s Complex Movement also exceeded expectations, realizing $137,900 against a low estimate of $40,000. Outstanding results were achieved for works by Aristide Maillol and Yukultji Napangati, each realizing prices that tripled their low estimates. We were also proud to debut works by Kent O’Connor, Jean-Pierre Villafañe, and Jameson Green and to set new auction records for Soumya Netrabile, Jana Schröder, and Harold Stevenson, reflecting growing recognition of both emerging and historically underrepresented artists. The strong results across both sales speak to the depth and diversity of today’s market. We look forward to building on this momentum when our modern and contemporary art auctions resume in New York this fall.”
