In celebration of the 5th anniversary of The Hepworth Wakefield, Phillips is honoured to host a specially curated exhibition of work by Barbara Hepworth. Late Hepworth follows the artistic developments in Hepworth's later years, focusing on the last decade of the sculptor's life from 1965-1975. Hepworth was extremely prolific during this period, with Alan Bowness (Director of the Tate Gallery, 1980-1988) noting that Hepworth made nearly as many works during the 1960s as the preceding four decades from 1925 through 1960.

These later works show Hepworth experimenting with new materials, working in bronze, slate and printmaking. She also made many works in marble, a material she had been drawn to as early as the 1920s but had not always been able to afford. Late Hepworth examines the legacy of one of the UK's most famous artists, who stated in 1971, "I don't think anyone realises how much the last ten years have been a fulfilment of my youth."

Our partnership with The Hepworth Wakefield forms one part of our global programme of arts partnerships in 2016, affirming our commitment to supporting the world's preeminent museums and public galleries.
