  • Catalogue Essay

One of Hadid’s audacious moves was to translate the dynamism and fluidity of her calligraphic hand directly into equally fluid tectonic systems. Another incredible move was the move from isometric and perspective projection to literal distortions of space and from the exploded axonometry to the literal explosion of space into fragments, from the superimposition of various fisheye perspectives to the literal bending and melt down of space etc. All these moves initially appear rampantly illogical, akin to the operations of the surrealists. (Patrik Schumacher quoted in: P. Noever, (ed.), Zaha Hadid. Architektur, MAK, Vienna, 2003, p. 22)
