  • Catalogue Essay

Pierpaolo Campanini’s Untitled from 2002 exudes a dauntingly mysterious character, on the cusp of reality but simultaneously sourced from the artist’s own imagination. Campanini, whose collective work fashions an abstracted narrative world amidst dwarf settings, places his characters in a rich world balancing recognition and other-worldly fantasy. In the present lot Campanini’s protagonist appears to oscillate in the lavender-hued environment fashioned by the artist, the high-tech ‘armor’ of its adornment and the larger than life ski mask form a pod-like structure that, almost without taking a second breath, one envisions hurdling into space from its landing zone on Campanini’s ethereal earth.
