Matteo Thun is associated with the Italian design group Memphis, which produced their first collection in 1981.  The Memphis look incorporates a seeming disregard for function with bold forms and synthetic materials which tap into the zeitgeist of the 1980s.   Thun espouses a “zero design” philosophy, in which function supersedes all other concerns in his work.   “I try to find archetypes and to have a kind of neutralized language in interior design, especially in furniture,” he states.
