The New York-based architecture firm and creative agency Leong Leong designed the present Light Rocker to challenge rigid notions of how furniture can be used within domestic spaces. Describing their project, Dominic Leong said, “We were thinking about the body and how to create a more open-ended relationship to a piece of furniture rather than a single static posture.” For example, Light Rocker can be used in different positions, all of which affect the relationship between user and object. When upright, it can function as a chair for balancing; when upside down it works as a surface for stretching; on its side, it becomes a table. The Rocker—which the designers made in both gneiss for interiors and the present example in perforated stainless steel for the outdoors—has been described as “part meditation seat, part yoga ball chair, part coffee table…an essential tool for peak experience living.”

100% of the proceeds will benefit the Office of Intercultural Student Engagement within the Center for Social Equity + Inclusion at the Rhode Island School of Design
