Our present lot is a vital example of the iconic work of German artist Konrad Klapheck. The work has the power to compel and menace the viewer-the simplicity of imagery is puzzling and withdrawn-and it is this singularity that manages to capture the imagination of its audience. Our present lot, like all of Klapcheck’s work, manages to be non-specific yet laden with undertones of masculinity and sexuality. The work is powerful with the erect needle ready to penetrate. The sewing machine is stripped of any femininity making it industrial and impersonal. The work is rendered with great clarity and exactness, with a perfection that makes it inaccessible to the point that all that remains is desire.
