The “Possession Gold Cuff” bangle is part of the “Somebody’s Sins” collection, in which Hannah Martin explores ideas of pushing limits and beyond, asking ‘How far will you go? Do you dare?’.
The answer lies here, in the bangle’s monumental scale and powerful character, while Martin also wanted to generate a thrilling tension between brutal and vulnerable; the glimpse of flesh, of the wrist, with its suggestion of a certain alluring fragility, contrasts with the strength of the graphic rose gold structure, the force of the shafts of gold that both pierce and connect.
Gold is Martin’s favourite material; she says she enjoys a lifelong love affair with gold. In all, the warmth and heroism of the rose and yellow gold, intensified by brown diamonds, builds a sculptural composition of both power and sensuality.
Martin adds, “I like to imagine that this bangle is a symbol of allegiance, to my imaginary muse, Mr S, a secret sign for those in the know. Like being part of a gang, or tribe.”
