    F.P. Journe

    Swiss • 1999

Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.

Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.

Phillips Perpetual is delighted to offer on behalf of an important collector, one of the most significant and rare F P Journe wristwatches. Whilst pocket watch sonneries have existed since the 19th century, this complication that offers immense engineering challenges in creating a compact, automatically chiming calibre was not seen in a wristwatch before 1992 when it was mastered by the great Philippe Dufour. The Sonnerie Souverain that debuted in 2006 would result in 10 patents being awarded to F P Journe and was immediately awarded the GPHG prize. Just two watchmakers were certified to produce such a marvel meaning that approximately four pieces would leave the manufacturer a year before being discontinued in 2018. Each watch would bear the name of its owner, an ode to the personal touch of each of these masterpieces and the importance of the client with a set of accessories to ensure the longevity of the watch and aid servicing. A crowning achievement for one of the greatest watchmakers to have ever lived. The Sonnerie Souverain is a definitive piece of the brands' history, representing one of the peaks of watchmaking remastered with the true DNA of this great brand. To own such a complication is the pinnacle of any collection, to own a Grande and Petite Sonnerie by F P Journe is to own history.
