"Feng Zhengjie's works remind the spectator that the world of today is both seductive and alien. Feng Zhengjie expresses this alienating and alienated condition of contemporary society with precision and capacity of impact that leaves us both surprised and disconcerted. It takes place through the mediation of female portraits of a disarming beauty that are nonetheless at the same time stereotyped victims of repression, people  whose relationship with reality has been dulled." (Lorenzo Sassoli de Bianchi,Feng Zhengjie)
Towards the end of Feng's graduate studies at the Sichuan Academy of Fine Art, the artist started his Recounting of Skin series. In Recounting of Skin, female nudes appear in red and green with disease like spots spread across the whole body. The majority of the series is composed of giant portraits in the full-frontal style of passport photos, only appearing in different hues of green and red; the present lot is an interpretation of a portrait of the famous Chinese music Faye Wong (Wang Fei). Feng frequently draws upon images from popular media, depicting famous Chinese actresses and socialites when creating his paintings.
