Catalogue Essay

The F.P Journe Élégante was officially introduced in 2014, and it has completely revolutionized the concept of a quartz movement. The Élégante electro-mechanical movement line was developed over an eight year span.
The Élégante is available in both 40mm and 48mm sizes, and made in platinum, pink gold, titanium, and Titalyt. There are additionally some examples that are set with diamonds, enamel panels, or precious stones. Titalyt is basically titanium subjected to electro-plasm oxidation, a revolutionary technique which drastically improves the material’s hardness and resistance to wear.
Equipped with an electro-mechanical caliber 1210, the watch “hibernates” after 35 minutes of inactivity to save battery life by stopping the hands from moving. When the watch is moved again, a small motion detector at 4 o’clock “awakens” it, allowing the hands to be readjusted to the correct time. The dial is translucent white with black Arabic numerals and a chemin de fer outer ring, and it is entirely made with Super-LumiNova for total luminescence in darkness, allowing the dial to glow in a mesmerizing electric blue.
The present Élégante example with 48mm Titalyt case is complemented by a charismatic orange rubber strap, which elevates the watch with a sporty yet elegant and sophisticated look. Offered by the original owner and preserved in “like-new” condition, it is accompanied by its complete set of guarantee and presentation box.

F.P. Journe

Swiss | 1999

Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.

Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
