  • Catalogue Essay

British-born and New Zealand-based designer David Trubridge studied Naval Architecture at Newcastle University in Northern England and while working as a forester, became a self-taught furniture designer. “Body Raft” clearly expresses Trubridge’s boat-making background, which is reflected in its smooth lines and sturdy construction. “Body Raft” gently rocks back and forth like a boat on water, making it an unconventional take on a very traditional form – the rocking chair. His simple and natural materials and construction processes speak to his respect for the environment and his desire to leave a ‘delicate footprint’ on the world.
