  • Catalogue Essay

"Brett Weston has carried on a love affair with photography since he was thirteen. He has given us sensual pleasure with his technical prowess, and assigned heroic qualities to usually unnoticed subjects by making minute adjustments in his camera’s relationship to thousands of motifs. His sometimes bravura and always fluent pictures encourage us to surrender to his fictionalized world. While sometimes perplexing, the photographs of Brett Weston have emotionally intensifying qualities that draw us back for relaxed reflection. This is mainly because there is no sense of visual confinement or limit to the intuitive levels of imagination in his work." –Van Deren Coke
